Position Summary

University Information Technology Services (UITS) is recruiting for a Senior Director of Finance and Administration. Reporting to Vice President for Information Strategy and University Libraries (VPISUL), the selected candidate will be a key member of the Executive Leadership team responsible for annual budgeting, strategic financial planning, division administration, and human resources. The successful candidate will be an established leader with a demonstrated record of accomplishment and administrative and financial experience, preferably in a complex organization and with higher education experience.

The Senior Director of Finance and Administration will work collaboratively with the VPISUL and will be entrusted with responsibilities that require a considerable degree of skilled leadership, negotiation, and reporting requirements. The right person for this opportunity is able to manage competing demands and demonstrates an exceptional level of complex facilitation, coordination, and communication skills.

UITS is a $50M organization of approximately 230 employees responsible for providing enterprise network, telecommunications, computing, and data services to the University of Arizona. UITS offers a broad array of services to the university community ranging from deploying and managing the campus’ wired and wireless networks to stewardship of the administrative applications that support the HR, payroll, finance, and student lifecycle management activities of the institution. Also, UITS recently unveiled its next-generation high performance computing environment to support the computationally-intensive needs of UA research faculty.

Duties & Responsibilities

•Direct reports to include; Director of Financial Management Services and Divisional Human Resources
•Direct UITS Finance and Administration office and their contributions to the success of the UITS strategic plan.
•Provide financial planning and management guidance to UITS Leadership 
•Prepare, analyze, and interpret financial reports or analyses; reports will include, present state, analysis, and forecasts to support strategic planning.
•Ensure management of financial operations, develop and implement policies and strategies, analyze performance indicators and financial data and make recommendations regarding budgeting, investment.
•Serve as finance liaison between UITS, campus, and University affiliates 
•Ensure sound systems of financial internal controls for all UITS processes, policies, and procedures to ensure the protection of UITS and University assets
•Utilize UA systems to create and advance dashboards for strategic planning, forecasting and leadership decision prioritization
•Provide oversight for training of business office staff to ensure compliance with federal, state, university and sponsor requirements
•Monitor annual operating budget 
•Manage audit review process including vendor management planning
•Other duties as assigned.

•Proven ability to develop direct reports for successful succession to greater responsibility
•Excellent writing skills, including conveying all necessary points concisely
•Analytical thinking and ability to develop creative solutions
•Ability to work well under pressure and to handle conflict with the highest professionalism

Minimum Qualifications

UITS’ Senior Director of Finance and Administration will be an accomplished business/financial administrator and will possess, at a minimum, the following qualifications:
•A Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting or related field; and 10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated progression in responsibility; or any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education
•Excellent critical thinking, judgment and decision-making ability, including the ability to weigh short- and long-term costs and benefits of a potential action
•Ability to work in a highly collaborative and inclusive environment, one that values and leverages the benefits of diverse perspectives. Broad, in-depth knowledge of strategic planning, introducing and managing change, budget planning and allocation, and leadership and management in complex organizations
•Excellent analytical, time management, organizational and creative problem-solving skills
•Strong verbal and written communication skills
•Initiative, optimism, flexibility and follow through
•Integrity and high ethical standards

Preferred Qualifications

•An advanced degree in business, accounting, or related field
•Experience with enterprise financial systems
•The ability to think strategically and bring together diverse groups of interests to coalesce in a unified vision
•An open style that engages others in problem-solving and a willingness to change strategic direction when presented with new and compelling data
•Political savvy coupled with the ability to communicate effectively to build and enhance relationships with staff, community, and various internal and external constituent groups
•The professional stature to garner the respect of UA’s faculty and administration as well as UITS staff
•A record of success in leading a large and complex organization through innovative structural change in a transparent and inclusive manner
•Effective at managing own time and time of others with high volume workloads
10 years of relevant experience with demonstrated progression in responsibility in a large complex institute of higher education or non-profit organization
