Position Summary

The successful candidate will carry out technical aspects of research activities of mouse molecular genetics research laboratories that investigate mouse models of colon, pancreatic and prostate cancers, congenital disorders of the connective tissue and brain, and epilepsy.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Management of genetically engineered breeding colonies of multiple strains of unique mice for the Genetically Engineered Mouse Models Core and for multiple investigators. This includes breeding, weaning, identification of individual mice, superovulation of mice, determination of estrus in mice, and daily observation of general health of mice and of phenotypic presentations such as physical abnormalities, tumors, abnormal behavior or epileptic seizures.
  • Management of databases for each mouse strain and, as needed, communication with investigators on the status of their colonies, including visible expression of phenotypes. Assist investigators in experiments if needed.
  • Coordination with University of Arizona Genetics Center for mouse genotyping and genotyping troubleshooting.
  • Assist with Micro Injection services as directed by current Micro-injection specialist.
  • Other duties as determined by supervisor.

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Mouse handling and mouse colony maintenance experience: maintenance of colony databases, animal identification, animal genotyping, animal breeding, weaning, timed pregnancy, embryo isolation, superovulation, gavage, necropsy.
  • General understanding of mouse genetics.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex subject matter with diverse research audiences.
