Position Summary

The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering (AME) at the University of Arizona invite applications for a faculty position in high performance materials simulation and theory. A technical expert is sought in the area of multiscale modeling and simulation applied but not limited to hypersonic fluid-thermal-structural interactions, thermodynamics of advanced high performance materials, dynamical evolution of microstructures in the presence of external stimuli, diffusion and non-equilibrium situations in materials systems under extreme conditions. In addition, expertise is desired in using big data to capture dynamic evolution of microstructures and simulating high temperature oxidation kinetics and corrosion. This is a tenure-track position intended to be at the assistant professor level, although candidates at a more senior academic level will be considered based on qualifications. This position is to begin in spring semester 2018. The position could be in either department or joint between both departments depending on the expertise of the successful candidate.

Duties & Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to establish a strong, high visibility program of high-quality externally-funded research and to be able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and/or Materials Science and Engineering. The successful candidate will also be expected to actively contribute to an environment that nurtures collaboration between the AME and MSE Departments and associated disciplines like Physics and Chemistry across the College and University.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications

Applicants must have an earned doctorate in Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Physics, or a related field. Past experience providing clear evidence of the potential to develop a strong externally-funded research program and the ability to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels is required.
