Position Summary

University Information Technology Services (UITS), within the University of Arizona, is accepting applications for a Business Analyst OR Business Analyst, Senior to support enterprise projects and initiatives. The analyst will serve as a liaison between the UA community and UITS, helping to implement technology solutions in a cost-effective way in order to achieve business goals. We are looking for a motivated, creative individual who has the unique ability to draw business needs from the business community and translate those needs into actionable specifications.

The level will be determined based on the work experience as defined by the minimum qualifications in this job posting.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Creates business cases, use cases, fit gap analyses, and requirements specifications for small projects.
  • Derives test cases and test plans from use cases and requirements.
  • Supports Integration and User Acceptance Test activities to ensure quality of the end user deliverables.

Additional Business Analyst, Senior responsibilities:

  • Acts as project leader on medium to large sized projects or on a portion of larger projects. Leads cross-functional teams to address business process or systems issues.
  • Manages projects’ scope, acceptance, installation and deployment.
  • Ensures projects are completed on-time and business benefits are achieved.
  • Conducts operational audits and analyzes data for possible improvements; Prepares reports summarizing findings, alternatives and recommendations.
  • Determines if current policies, practices and internal controls are adequate to meet management objectives and makes recommendations for improvements.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills -ability to effectively present ideas, both orally and in written form.
  • Strong customer service and organizational skills.
  • Works well independently and with a team.
  • Self-motivated and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, ever-changing enterprise environment.
  • Demonstrated experience performing business analyst functions, such as soliciting requirements, writing functional design specifications, developing test scripts, and implementing solutions.

To be considered at the level of Business Analyst:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field AND one year of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, five years of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

To be considered at the level of Business Analyst, Sr:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field AND three years of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, seven years of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in project management.
  • Strong understanding of the importance of continuous learning, training, and growing in the knowledge of the information technology industry.
