University Information Technology Services (UITS), within the University of Arizona, is accepting applications for a Business Analyst or Business Analyst, Senior to join a highly talented, collaborative team, supporting PeopleSoft HCM and other enterprise systems. The analyst will serve as a liaison between the UA community and UITS, helping to implement technology solutions in a cost-effective way in order to achieve business goals. We are looking for a motivated, creative individual who has the unique ability to draw business needs from the business community and translate those needs into actionable specifications.

The level will be determined based on the work experience as defined by the minimum qualifications in this job posting.

Duties & Responsibilities

Business Analyst

• Participates in the production support efforts of PeopleSoft HCM and related systems, including keeping current with relevant regulatory requirements and vendor maintenance.
• Participates in analyzing user needs and business procedures and systems. Researches and provides recommendations for improvements.
• Participates in problem solving in areas such as system design, input/output requirements and procedural flow between departments and/or divisions.
• Creates project charters, fit-gap analyses, functional specs, test plans and test scripts.
• Acts as project leader on small to medium-sized projects or on a portion of larger projects.

Business Analyst, Sr. (additional responsibilities):

• Leads cross-functional teams to address business process or systems issues.
• Encourages interaction and the exchange of ideas, concerns and proposals between departments to facilitate solutions to problems. Works with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems.
• Conducts operational audits and analyzes data for possible improvements; Prepares reports summarizing findings, alternatives and recommendations.
• Peer reviews functional specs and improvement recommendations.
• Determines if current policies, practices and internal controls are adequate to meet management objectives and makes recommendations for improvements;
• Acts as project leader on medium to large sized projects or on a portion of larger projects. Creates and maintains project documentation.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication skills -ability to effectively present ideas, both orally and in written form.
• Strong customer service and organizational skills.
• Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.
• Demonstrated experience performing business analyst functions, such as soliciting requirements, writing functional design specifications, developing test scripts, and implementing solutions.

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

To be considered at the level of Business Analyst:

Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field AND one year of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, five years of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

To be considered at the level of Business Analyst, Sr:

Bachelor’s degree in Management Information Systems or related field AND three years of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, seven years of experience in procedural, management or business analysis work; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications

• Working experience with PeopleSoft HCM 9.2.
• Ability to use SQL or other query tools to perform analysis.
