Position Summary

The Bolger lab(http://mcb2.arizona.edu/tbolger) studies mechanisms of post-transcriptional gene expression and RNA dynamics. The lab is seeking a motivated individual for a Research Specialist or Technician position to design and perform research experiments and to assist the principal investigator in managing the daily operation of the laboratory. Expertise in general molecular biology techniques is required, and experience in yeast biology and/or protein biochemistry is preferred. This position is largely grant-funded and is therefore subject to available funding after three years.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Design and perform experiments, analyze data, and maintain accurate experimental records. Experiments are expected to include molecular cloning, protein purification, in vivo and in vitro protein analyses, yeast genetics, and other cell biology techniques.
  • Inventory and requisition supplies and reagents; maintain records of such.
  • Arrange equipment repair, waste disposal, and safety measures according to established procedures.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.

Research Technician:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Four years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Research Specialist:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Biology or related field AND two years related research experience; OR, Six years research experience appropriate to the area of assignment; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience with yeast biology/genetics or protein biochemistry (purification, enzymatic assays, etc.)
