We invite applications for this on-call (non benefits eligible) position which will be working with the Mt. Lemmon SkyCenter (MLSC); the UA’s science learning facility atop Mt. Lemmon which offers a variety of science education programs and workshops to the public. This position will fill-in as program leader for SkyNights Evening Observing Program, on an as needed basis.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Organizes, and coordinates all aspects of SkyNights Evening Observing program.
  • Conducts SkyNights Evening Observing programs for adults and youth as needed.
  • Drives program guests around SkyCenter facilities in a passenger shuttle around the mountaintop (requires obtaining commercial driver’s license within 60 days of hire).
  • Answers inquiries and provides information relating to the completion of forms, materials and record keeping.
  • Maintains records and sales of SkyCenter merchandise to the public, via point-of-sale terminal.
  • Additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience in education and outreach in the field of Astronomy.
  • Ability to develop and present educational/instructional programs to the public.
  • Valid Arizona Driver’s License and ability to obtain Commercial Driver’s License within 60 days of hire.
  • Ability to work at the high altitude summit of Mt. Lemmon.
Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in a field appropriate to the area of assignment AND one year of instructional or subject work experience; OR, five years of progressively responsible instructional or subject work experience; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Operational knowledge of 24-32 inch, research grade telescopes
