Position Summary

The Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Arizona (UA) College of Medicine is seeking applicants for a full-time Professor (Associate/Full) on the Tenure Track. Prospective candidates will show a strong commitment to biomedical imaging physics translational research, innovation and education, with the capacity to develop and lead programmatic initiatives and a track record of success in achieving independent funding.

The Department of Medical Imaging provides clinical service to Banner University Medical Center – Tucson (the sole Level 1 Trauma Center in southern Arizona), Diamond Children’s Medical Center, University of Arizona Cancer Center, Banner University Medical Center – South Campus, University Medical Imaging, and community sites throughout Arizona.

The Department of Medical Imaging, Banner Health, and University of Arizona are undergoing major growth and investment in facilities and equipment, with advanced imaging systems and informatics making this an attractive opportunity. This is further supported by very active industry partnerships and research relationships. The UA has a strong tradition of clinical care excellence, driven by innovation and discovery, with the Department of Medical Imaging faculty having extensive collaborations across other departments in the College of Medicine and other colleges.

The Department of Medical Imaging has a strong tradition of imaging research, with 18 research faculty and many cross-appointed faculty in Biomedical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Biochemistry and Chemistry and 14,000 sq. ft. of dedicated research space in the Department, providing a fertile ground for translational research.

The position provides full academic appointment at the University of Arizona with compensation commensurate with experience and accomplishments.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leadership roles in clinical diagnostic imaging systems performance optimization.
  • Leadership roles in the Clinical Physicists Section.
  • Technology innovation and translation.
  • Leadership role in mentorship and education for clinical biomedical imaging physics.
  • Leadership role in strategy and program development.
  • Focus areas of innovation to include oncological imaging diagnostics.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering or related field.
  • Must meet University of Arizona criteria for appointment to a tenure track senior level faculty position.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Successful record of clinical medical physics.
  • Experience in Electrical Engineering or related area.
  • Service excellence and research experience.
  • Experience in X-ray modalities such as digital mammography, computed tomography and interventional radiology.
  • Track record of receiving extramural funding.
  • Established expertise in working with diverse communities.
