Position Summary

There are multiple openings for these on-call positions.

The Home Living Assistant positions provide child care and activities for children ages 0-5, while their parents take classes on improving parent/child relationships. The classes will take place in the Nogales or Rio Rico Family Resource Centers.
Program sessions are sporadic throughout the year. Sessions run for 8-10 weeks, generally 2 mornings per week.

Possession of a valid Arizona Type D driver’s license or access to reliable transportation is required upon employment.

Duties & Responsibilities

Interaction with Children
• Care for and interact with children in Family Resource Center environment with parent on site in a way which conveys respect and nurturing;
• Provide activities and opportunities that encourage curiosity, exploration, and problem-solving appropriate to the development levels of the children;
• It will be the child care provider’s responsibility to play with children which will often interacting with them on the floor – be sure to use age appropriate toys and materials only;
• Ensure that qualified adults supervise (see and hear) children at all times
• Attend to the personal hygiene of each child in your care, including informing parents when their child needs to use the restroom or needs a diaper changed;
• Support the social and emotional development of children;
• Adhere to the principles of positive guidance;
• Follow FRC procedure in the event of injury or illness in the child;
• Maintain open, friendly, and cooperative relationship with each child’s family and encourage their involvement in the program; and
• Assist in the development and facilitation of interactive child literacy activities.
• Help other staff in preparing snacks for children as required;
• Assist in the selection of books, equipment and other instructional materials appropriate for the early childhood program;
• Maintain attendance records of children participating;
• Maintain a safe environment based on safety standards set by the program;
• Assist in the cleaning, straightening and sanitizing of the Center at the end of the shift;
• Must complete specific initial and ongoing training on child development, CPR and first aid training and child abuse prevention and how to report suspected cases;
• Continue professional development through attending workshops, conferences and other staff development; and
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

• Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation in order to edit reports and correspondence;
• Bilingual ability in English and Spanish preferred;
• Prior experience desirable;
• Ability to communicate and work well with staff, parents and children;
• Must pass background check for working with children;
• Must have reliable transportation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds
• Sitting on the ground or standing attending children for 1 hour or more.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent

Arizona Board of Regents Minimum Qualifications

One year of experience in health, home economics or nutrition programs; OR one year of experience working with the public; OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education. Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver’s license upon employment.
