Position Summary

A Postdoctoral Research Associate position is available in the lab of Dr. Russell S. Witte, PhD, in the Department of Medical Imaging at the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. The successful candidate will assume a lead role in federally-funded projects involving cutting-edge techniques in ultrasound imaging.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Use Verasonics™ programmable ultrasound system to test custom US arrays.
  • Develop/test ultrasound beamforming algorithms with coded excitation.
  • Apply advanced signal processing techniques to model/analyze multidimensional data.
  • Design US arrays and model beam patterns in FOCUS.™
  • Fabricate and test tissue-mimicking phantoms.
  • Produce high-quality publications.
  • Mentor team of graduate and undergraduate students.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • PhD in Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or related field.
  • At least (2) two publications in ultrasound imaging or ultrasonic techniques.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a multidisciplinary environment.
  • Have a track record of quality publications in ultrasound imaging or ultrasonic techniques.
  • Software: 3+ years’ experience in Labview™ and Matlab™/C++.
  • Hardware: 3+ years’ experience with bioinstrumentation (oscilloscopes, function generators, op-amps, etc). Knowledge of the Verasonics™ system is highly desirable.
  • Fluency in English with good writing and presentation skills.
  • Experience with any of the following topics will also benefit the various projects: thermoacoustic imaging with microwaves, photoacoustic imaging, elasticity imaging, speckle tracking, biomechanics, acoustoelectric imaging, bioelectricity, electrophysiology, electrical impedance tomography, transcranial ultrasound, hyperthermia, COMSOL,™ FOCUS,™ SolidWorks™/3D printing, machine shop, working with animals or human subjects.
